Hangover in Bucharest II

It is not easy to share my stories because of one point of view: I don’t know exactly what to begin with, therefore, I am just letting my hands be guided by all the memories that come to mind.

The previous article talks about my very first experience as a Tour Operator. Over the years, I hosted hundreds of different groups and of course, I collected a lot of memories and experiences but I am still afraid to say “ Ah, I’ve seen a lot, nothing can surprise me anymore” because it’s exactly this time when something new happens. I remember I said something similar when I had to host a small group of 4 people. I said to myself it’s going to be an easy night so I left my home very relaxed and full of confidence. We had to do a pub- crawl. They were very nice and communicative so it was very easy to interact with them. Everything went well and they welcomed me into their group as if I was their friend for a long time.

The drinks were quite many and shots, oh the shots! We were in a small pub located on a quite narrow street. It’s actually one of my favourite pubs because the staff is cool, the drinks are cheap and the music reminds me of my student years. We were dancing, telling jokes, laughing, basically everybody was having a good time. It didn’t seem like anyone from the group was struggling to hold their drinks. They seemed tipsy but not too much. We went out to take some fresh air and one of them was sitting on the margin holding tight to his bottle of beer. At one point we saw him sneezing and falling on his head. We instantly started to laugh but then realised he was not getting back up. Actually, he was not moving at all because he passed out. Our smiles disappeared and we tried to wake him up. I think the shots we had made us slap his face to make him conscious again. We panicked so I called an ambulance. While I was explaining where we were at, I saw him getting back up so I told the doctors “ Oh, he’s fine, he is moving again, don’t worry!”.

The second day we met he asked me “ Do you know what happened last night? My cheeks hurt me a lot.” I was like “ Uuuhm, I have no idea!” and we all started to laugh. Since then, I am not underestimating  a group’s ability to do crazy things by its size. Ooops!

Talking about body parts hurting the second day after a night out, I remember another group. You would think that the best man should be the one in charge and he should be the wisest and well behaved but considering that he is the one having the closest relationship with the groom, he is the happiest about his friend’s accomplishment so he is usually the one getting wasted the first but it’s not a rule. This happened in this group I started to talk about as well. The best man was the happiest, haha! We convinced him to go back to their accommodation ( they were staying in a hostel in the Old Town, very close to the bar we were at). Me and a few boys from the group took him back, put him to bed and slowly went back out the door. After a few steps we heard a big “ Booom”! He fell off the bed, haha! We put him back to bed again and runned back to the pub. The second day, same story: a big bruise on his forehead and he asked me “ How did I get this?” I told him he fell off the bed, he couldn’t remember anything and his face was priceless that moment. We all started to laugh and hoped this won’t happen again the next night.

Another funny but not that funny situation was when one of our group went missing. I remember dropping them all in front of the hotel at 6 AM. Around midday, I asked the best man if everything is ok and if everybody will attend the daytime activity. His answer was affirmative so I went to pick them up very relaxed. When I met them, they came fast to me and told me:

  • Uhm, something happened! We lost one of us. He has been missing since we last saw him in the morning in front of the hotel.
  • Ok, ok, you told me everything was ok, why didn’t you tell me before?
  • We hoped he would show up by now. His phone and his wallet are in his room but we don’t know where he is.

We started to discuss and they agreed to move on with the plan and wait for the night, maybe he would show up. In the evening, around 8 PM, he was still missing so we decided to call the police. Three policemen arrived, we all gave statements, including the hotel staff and they told us we have to wait 48 hours to be able to declare him missing.

We had a club booking and the group decided to move forward with the plan and maybe in the meantime he will show up. Exactly the moment we were getting ready to leave the hotel, he showed up happy, smiling at us and we were all shocked, checking if he was ok.

  • I am fine, he said. Why are you all looking at me like that?
  • Because you were missing and we called the police to search for you? Said the best man.
  • Hahahahahaha! I am fine, I didn’t think you would be worried.

We waited for him to get changed and we all went to the club. He didn’t want to tell us where he was but one thing we knew for sure: by the smile on his face, he had a good time.

The stories are plenty and the laughs are a lot. Every group I hosted by far had a great time in Bucharest. I can only hope that I will host more and they will all have a great time and collect memories like the previous ones had.
